With hairdressing being led into a hair colour revolution with more people than ever before having their hair coloured for fashion purposes, what better way to kick off this blog than explaining all things colour…

Social media makes us want what we see, we see images everyday of hair and make-up and it’s now far more accessible to the everyday person. We see an amazing hair colour or style… we pin it, save it and we want it. Our colour clientele has really grown over the last few years and the Balayage and Ombre trend is a big contributor to this. We do some big colour corrections and colour changes regularly and they often take my stylists up to 6 hours depending on what is involved.  One of my favourite sayings is “managing people’s expectations”, that is what your stylist is there for, to tell you what will work, what won’t and what you can expect. Your hair has a history, everything you have done to it has left a mark on your hair and we as stylists have to draw on our knowledge and experience to work with this history and produce the hair colour you desire.

There are some colours that will never be achievable on some people’s hair no matter what we do, we will always be upfront and tell people this, always armed with a backup suggestion. There are some we can do quite easily and there are others that will take a few appointments to get you there. We consult and advise with our clients so there are no hidden costs or surprises.

So what do you need to consider before embarking on your hair colour journey…

Time

Do you have the time to maintain your desired colour? Can you make regular appointments to keep your hair looking tip top?

Condition

Hair condition has a big impact on what colouring can be achieved or even if a colouring service can be carried out. There are some things that just cannot be achieved without compromising the hair. So be prepared for your stylist to be honest about what can and can’t be achieved. We advise clients to add Innoluxe to their colour service which is an additive added to your colour to protect the bonds of your hair and prevent further damage. Leaving softer, shinier and more manageable hair.

Price

Some colours take your stylist a huge amount of time and product, so how much it will cost will depend on how big the job is. Some colours require more than one appointment to get to the desired result and some colours require more maintenance than others, so it’s important to make sure you have discussed all your options. We give our clients a breakdown of the price and what future appointments will cost to keep and maintain your new colour.

So in essence you cant go from black to blonde in one sitting, not everyone can have ashy blonde hair, Kim K sometimes wears a wig and some of those fabulous silver colours on Pinterest have a filter BUT if you take the time to book a consultation with a stylist and are willing to discuss your options, listen to aftercare and invest the money you too can most definitely have Pinterest worthy hair

If you are thinking of changing your hair colour you can book a 1-2-1 consultation with one of our stylists through our online booking system here or call Luxe Hair Design on 01252660030.
